About HorseSense for Special Riders

We've Moved!

Come see our new home at horsesensewi.org

Our History

In 1989, Paula Hueners and Cheryl Cade started HorseSense for Special Riders after Cheryl had volunteered at a therapeutic riding program in Minneapolis, MN.

Cheryl, a certified Occupational Assistant and Paula, an Occupational Therapist were interested in the idea of using horses to facilitate emotional, physical and psychological development but needed the help of others, especially those with strong horsemanship. Along came Lena Kribeck and Paula Charron, with their vast horse knowledge.

In the Fall of 2014, we moved to our new location, at W4102 Ober Road! We have now had a couple of sucsessful seasons at the new facility, and are excited to have our indoor arena built by the our summer 2017 session. With this indoor, we hope to grow and expand to offer even more programs and options for our riders!

Our Mission

HorseSense for Special Riders is dedicated to enriching the lives of individuals with special needs through a partnership with the horse.

Our Vision

HorseSense for Special Riders will be recognized in the community for excellence in equine facilitated therapeutic programs.

Who does HorseSense serve?

The riders that come to HorseSense are of all ages and backgrounds. Our age demographic ranges from 4 years old to 70 years old. Most of our riders have some varying diagnosis of physical, cognitive, behavioral or psychological disabilites. Because of this, there is no "typical" rider. Our instructors are trained to offer the best type of lesson plan to benefit anyone!
