Become a Rider
Prospective riders who express an interest in the program are provided with information and the forms required for application. All new riders to HorseSense must complete a screening before being scheduled in a lesson spot. Once your application has been processed, you will be contacted to schedule a screening.
Once a rider is accepted in the program, they must have proper release forms signed by a physician and sign-up for a lesson spot. Once lessons start, therapeutic goals are established and progress is documented. A PATH Intl certified instructor instructs all lessons. Lesson activities may include developing basic riding skills, exercises, or games. Group classes are small, usually 2-4 riders, and last about one hour.
Riders must be at least four years of age to participate. There is no maximum age, as long as the rider has no physical or medical complications.
Sessions & Fees
Each lesson is $35. Each session varies 4 weeks to 12 weeks. Scholarships are available on a limited basis for riders with financial needs.
HSSR will cancel lessons in weather extremes including, but not limited to temperature extremes, high winds, tornado warnings, severe thunderstorms or lightning. Call HSSR at (608) 791-4868 two hours prior to your session for notification of cancellation. The answering service will have a recorded message indicating if lessons are cancelled.
If your rider has to miss a lesson, please contact HorseSense at (608) 791-4868 in advance so we can inform the instructors and volunteers before the lesson starts.
